Like bowls, ceramic vessels have been produced since the earliest human societies. In my hand-built vessels, I occasionally marble two types of grogged clay to introduce surface texture while also enhancing structural strength during construction.
In contrast to my bowls, these vessels often incorporate controlled geometric patterning achieved through paper masking and the application of coloured slips. I am currently extending this approach by building increasingly larger vessels, exploring the scale limits and structural possibilities of slab construction.
